NCAA Basketball: Joe Girard, Hunter Dickinson among week’s top 25 transfer pickups
2. Tylor Perry – North Texas to Kansas State
2022-23 season stats: 17.3 ppg and 2.1 apg
Perry is a former Conference USA Player of the Year that led North Texas to an NIT title this past season. He’s an elite two-way player, including from the three-point line where he made 41% of his shots at over seven a game. The 5’11 playmaker had a 35-point game against the San Jose State Spartans and averaged around 20 ppg in the final eight games of the season.
Perry might not be as explosive as star guard Markquis Nowell was for the Wildcats this past season but don’t be surprised if the new transfer guard puts up bigger stats next season. He goes from the slowest-paced offense in NCAA Basketball to one of the faster ones and will be the lead guard for Kansas State next season.
1. Hunter Dickinson – Michigan to Kansas
2022-23 season stats: 18.5 ppg and 9.0 rpg
A really strong case can be made that Dickinson is the best player to have entered the portal all offseason. He’s a proven 20 and 10 caliber of player at the Big Ten level and quietly shot over 40% from three-point range in limited attempts. Dickinson is a three-time all-conference player and had multiple 30+ point efforts, including 32 points and 12 rebounds at home against Maryland.
Maryland was one of the teams that Kansas beat out to land Dickinson. He gives the Big 12 program an offensive player to run the offense through and is essentially the frontcourt replacement for Conference Player of the Year, Jalen Wilson. They landed one of the top transfers of the past weeks in guard Nicolas Timberlake but Dickinson is a proven power conference star and instantly makes the Jayhawks a national title favorite in 2023-24.
