Kentucky Wildcats
The Wildcats are rolling with a pair of five-star guards to run the offense next season in DJ Wagner and Robert Dillingham, both of whom are projected to be gone after one year. Outside of top-30 shooting guard Reed Sheppard, there’s no other guard that Kentucky is expecting to have in the future.
That makes it a perfect situation for Fland to be the next star guard on the roster and with Oscar Tshiebwe definitely gone, the backcourt players will be the focal points of the offense. There has been some talk about Coach John Calipari and his future but he should be around for the next couple of years. So it shouldn’t affect Fland’s recruitment with them but something to keep in mind.
Michigan Wolverines
I honestly believe that there’s a better chance that Coach Juwan Howard leaves NCAA Basketball than Calipari. He was mentioned for the open Detroit Pistons job but that’s not likely to happen. And while he’s not on the hot seat at Michigan, another year of missing the Big Dance could warm things up. They don’t have Hunter Dickinson on the roster and will have to rely on guards Caleb Love and Dug McDaniel in the backcourt.
Assuming McDaniel isn’t going pro or transferring, Fland would play next to him in the backcourt but might not be a lead guard. And unless the Wolverines find a way to bolster the roster in the next 12 months, they’ll be in a tough position talent-wise when it comes to convincing five-star guards like Fland to come over.
