Kentucky

It’s not breaking news that Kentucky is bringing in the best recruiting class in the nation next season. John Calipari has always been a top-level recruiter and he’s needed this type of class with the talent the Wildcats lose. Former national player of the year Oscar Tshiebwe is in the Draft process and likely won’t return while the Wildcats will be leaning heavily on the experience of Jacob Toppin.

This is a frontcourt that adds stud freshmen Justin Edwards and Aaron Bradshaw, but it’s more than just that. The Wildcats will really need Kaluma if Chris Livingston stays in the draft as well. Last season, the Wildcats had Tshiebwe, Toppin and a number of other experienced weapons like Antonio Reeves and Sahvir Wheeler. Adding Kaluma’s postseason experience to a roster of young players could be monumental.

Michigan

Former Wolverine center Hunter Dickinson recently announced he was transferring to Kansas, leaving Juwan Howard with quite the hole to fill in his lineup. This isn’t just about finding a new big man, because Dickinson was a major weapon on both sides of the ball. With Kobe Bufkin and Jett Howard both gone as well, the Wolverines have already been active to find next season’s scoring, adding former North Carolina star Caleb Love, but they could certainly use more assistance.

Terrance Williams currently projects as Michigan’s starting power forward, but Kaluma would be a better player in the starting lineup. Additionally, adding Kaluma could be great insurance, especially if the Wolverines miss out on Olivier Nkhamhoua, the transfer from Tennessee who still hasn’t announced his next move either. Michigan will have new talent in the lineup next year, but a piece like Kaluma could be significant in the tough Big 12, especially with them leaning on new faces to make major moves.
