NCAA Basketball: 10 teams that should target Tennessee transfer Julian Phillips
Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns have landed four transfers this offseason; most notably, Max Abmas of Oral Roberts. The others are either bigs or guards, leaving the wing position wide open. And with freshman Dillon Mitchell in the NBA Draft and five-star prospect Ron Holland recently de-committing, the need can offer a spot to any capable wing.
Phillips is the kind of athlete that Texas prefers and playing with Abmas in the backcourt would open things up for him. His defense would be a nice fit and Coach Rodney Terry has proven himself in his year as the interim leader last season. Holland leaving could be what opens things up for Phillips and Texas and both sides would benefit.
Xavier Musketeers
The Musketeers have landed four transfers, two guards (Dayvion McKnight and Quincy Olivari), and two bigs (Abou Ousmane and Logan Duncomb). The wing position doesn’t have a ton of experience outside of Jerome Hunter, who doesn’t; provide much on the offensive end.
It’s a potentially risky spot if they opt to play Hunter at the three-spot but he was best at the four when Zach Freemantle got hurt. They can play Phillips at the three and with so many mid-major transfers, Xavier could use a proven power conference performer like him and he’d be a good replacement for Colby Jones, another big guard that developed over time to become a 1st round NBA Draft prospect.
