Ole Miss Rebels

During the process of this writing, the Rebels landed Moussa Cisse, a starting center transfer from Oklahoma State. He’s one of the best interior defenders in all of NCAA Basketball, winner of the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2022. He’s one of four offseason pickups for the program, joining Brandon Murray, Jamarion Sharp, and Austin Nunez.

The problem for the Rebels is that both Murray and Cisse are two-time transfers without graduating and will need a waiver from the NCAA next season. If that doesn’t happen, then suddenly, the roster has a lot more holes.

Among the key returning players are shooting guard Matthew Murrel and forward Jaemyn Brakefield. They have a solid incoming recruiting class but not proven at the SEC level. There are several needs that will only grow if they don’t get waivers for those two transfers.

One is point guard now that Daeshun Ruffin transferred to Jackson State. And one more big man to add depth will also help, along with a “3 and D” shooter. Let’s see what new coach Chris Beard can do, as the program looks to slide up to the top half of the SEC.
