NCAA Basketball: 15 teams that still need roster help after 2023 transfer portal deadline
Virginia Cavaliers
The Cavaliers have already lost four of its top six players on the roster this offseason, including all three key forwards. Both Ben Vander Plas and Jayden Gardner ran out of eligibility, while center Kadin Shedrick transferred over to Texas. And longtime starting guard Kihei Clark left after his fifth and final season.
They still have to deal with two more players in the NBA Draft process, as leading scorer Armaan Franklin and point guard Reece Beekman could either stay for their senior years or leave. And this team also lost a couple of bench players to the transfer portal, including Isaac Traudt to Creighton.
Virginia has landed a few solid pieces, including Northeast Conference Player of the Year forward Jordan Minor, and Andrew Rohde, a freshman scoring guard transfer from St. Thomas. But if one or both of those guards are gone, the team will need to find a ball-handler to pair with former Georgetown guard, Dante Harris.
And regardless of what either of them does, the frontcourt is fairly bare, with just Minor there along with a pair of incoming freshmen. Unless Oklahoma transfer Jacob Groves provides more of a scoring punch than he did at his previous spot, Virginia still needs at least one more offensive playmaker, both inside and out, to feel good about their chances in the ACC.
