NCAA Basketball: 15 teams that still need roster help after 2023 transfer portal deadline
North Carolina Tar Heels
While Notre Dame is essentially starting over, UNC has at least two remaining building blocks coming back after last season. Guard RJ Davis and star center Armando Bacot will have a new supporting cast, including four transfers.
The first two were Brown transfer guard Paxson Wojick, along with former Louisville forward, Jae’lyn Withers. The next duo had a little more starpower, as Cormac Ryan is a sharpshooting guard from Notre Dame and is a better shooter than anyone on the Tar Heels’ roster this past season, while Stanford wing Harrison Ingram is an all-around contributor that’ll help the passing for the team.
Is it enough for North Carolina to compete in the ACC next season? Don’t forget that along with Caleb Love, several bench players transferred out this offseason, including Puff Johnson and D’Marco Dunn. There’s a lack of depth for them, giving the same problem they had last year when the starters weren’t getting it done.
UNC could use a couple of key reserves, both in the frontcourt and backcourt. An additional ball-handler to pair with Davis is ideal and help could come soon in Elliott Cadeau, a five-star commit in the 2024 class that could reclassify to join next season.
