NCAA Basketball: Jordan Dingle, Jaylon Tyson among week’s top-20 transfer pickups

20. Hunter Dean – George Washington to LSU

2022-23 season stats: 8.7 ppg and 6.1 rpg

The 6’10 big man posted career-high numbers as a senior for GW, including 64% of his total shots from the field. Dean had 12 double-digit scoring outings, including a career-high 21 points and eight rebounds against La Salle. He joins Nevada transfer Will Baker in the new-look frontcourt for LSU and can play both positions inside either as a starter or behind Baker at the five-spot.

19. Yazid Powell – Buffalo to UTEP

2022-23 season stats: 13.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, and 2.7 apg

The 6’4 guard from Philadelphia was second on the team in scoring, shooting 42% from the field. Powell went for 24 points, six assists, and five steals against Colgate, as well as 27 points and 10 rebounds versus Bowling Green. He joins Colorado State transfer Baylor Hebb as a newcomer to the backcourt to replace Shamar Givance.

18. Elijah Hawkins – Howard to Minnesota

2022-23 season stats: 12.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and 6.0 apg

Hawkins was an All-MEAC performer for both years at Howard, including three double-digit passing games, along with a 20-point effort against La Salle this past season. The 5’11 point guard also shot 47% from three-point range and is a capable scoring threat. He joins Pepperdine transfer Mike Mitchell in the backcourt for the Gophers as two of the more talented passers from the NCAA Basketball transfer portal.
