In the 2023 NCAA Basketball recruiting class talk, Isaiah Collier has been viewed as the No. 1 overall prospect. But at least on 247sports, the USC commit has been taken over by Ron Holland, who recently de-committed from Texas and is currently available. But in the 2024 class, there’s no debate about who the top prospect is… Tre Johnson.

The consensus No. 1 overall recruit for next year’s class, Johnson is a 6’5 true shooting guard from Dallas, Texas. In the new wave of “combo guards”, this player is a clear off-guard on the perimeter. That doesn’t mean that Johnson doesn’t have good handles but he’s definitely more of a 20 ppg caliber scorer than a facilitator.

There are prospects that can be considered “3-level scorers” that can shoot and score anywhere on the court. But Johnson is great from deep, mid-range, and getting to the basket. His offensive abilities should translate well not only at the NCAA Basketball level but also eventually to the NBA.

The recruitment for Johnson hasn’t had too many updates as of late but that changed on Monday, as the five-star prospect announced a list of six programs that are reportedly still in contention.

Those are six of the biggest NCAA Basketball programs around, including two of the more recent national champions. There isn’t a timetable of when Johnson could announce his ultimate decision but in the meantime, we can take a look at how he’d fit with each of the options.

Here’s a power ranking of the programs involved, picking the No. 1 destination that makes the most sense.
