NBA Draft 2023: Latest mock draft after San Antonio Spurs get No. 1 overall pick
The Big Ten Rookie of the Year averaged 13.5 ppg and 3.7 apg as the lead guard for Indiana, making 33% of his three-point shots. Hood-Schifino had some major games, including 33 points against Northwestern, as well as 35 on 14/24 shooting at Purdue. He has the size at 6’6 and 220 pounds and a solid offensive game and is more than capable of being a ball-handler.
Brooklyn lost Kyrie Irving in the backcourt and while Spencer Dinwiddie did well as the new lead guard, they’re going to need another ball-handler. Plus, Ben Simmons just isn’t a reliable player for the Nets until proven otherwise. And with an improved jumper, Hood-Schifino has plenty of offensive potential for the new-look franchise.
Rupert is a 6’6 wing that played for the New Zealand Breakers in Australia. His measurables and athleticism make him an ideal long-term prospect for teams. Plus, he’s going to be 19 years old throughout his entire rookie season and could be a stash candidate to stay overseas or in the G League if needed.
The Nets are a team that after losing both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, could be rebuilding for the future. Or at least not being in the national championship picture for the time being. But if they score with a talent like Rupert, the process won’t take too long to get back up there in the East.
