NCAA Basketball: Analyzing 4 teams in play for Vandy transfer Tyrin Lawrence
Auburn Tigers
With the loss of starting guard Allen Flanigan to the portal, Auburn is in need of someone that can play the three-spot. They landed D-II transfer Chaney Johnson but he’s not proven at the SEC level the same way that Lawrence is. The team already landed 20 ppg scorer Denver Jones from Florida International to help bolster a new offense that should be more potent.
Lawrence is a near-perfect fit for the Tigers and his scoring and shooting ability would be a nice asset. And if big man and leading scorer Johni Broome remain in the NBA Draft, the team will need another offensive weapon to make up for the lost production.
Memphis Tigers
The Tigers have landed a few guards this offseason, including FSU combo guard Caleb Mills, 6’10 D-II transfer Jonathan Pierre and Middle Tennessee transfer Teafale Leonard. But none of them has the offensive potential as Lawrence does and there’s a big need for another scoring, especially if five-star freshman guard Mikey Williams isn’t able to play due to felony charges he’s facing this offseason.
Memphis has lots of roster needs but Lawrence can come in and be the focal point of the offense. And if he puts up huge numbers at the AAC level, that could help his draft stock even more. Plus, he’d be coached by former NBA star Coach Penny Hardaway.
