Clemson

Football rules in the collegiate sporting world so it’s no surprise that Clemson would fit right into the SEC. The Tigers recently won a pair of national championships and have actually been the only ACC team to make major headway in football in the last half-decade. Even if we’re thinking about just basketball, it’s a move that makes a ton of sense.

Clemson would join rival South Carolina in the league and instantly overshadow their in-state foes. The Tigers are a better football and basketball program and have the resources to win basketball games in the SEC. The basketball program has been consistently decent since Brad Brownell was brought aboard in 2010, but would they be enough to compete against the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentucky on a regular basis?

If this was based solely on football, Clemson would be the most attractive candidate from the ACC for a new conference and the SEC would come running. Even when you throw in the other sports, the SEC makes a lot of sense for geographic reasons too. Their inclusion would make the SEC even more of a super conference, and they certainly won’t be the last ACC team we suggest for that new-look league today.
