Florida State

The SEC isn’t the only potential landing spot for Florida State, but it’s certainly the one that makes the most sense. The Seminoles are perfect geographically, adding another school in the Sunshine State and uniting them with rival Florida. In the long run, would it be the Gators or Seminoles taking charge in the league?

Though Florida State has had a few sparse basketball seasons recently, their last half decade or so certainly trumps what the Gators have accomplished. From a purely basketball perspective, adding Florida State to the SEC would be great for the league, especially with the success Leonard Hamilton has had in over two decades with that program. This move is not about recent success in the sport, it’s about how Florida State would be a perfect match long-term for the league.

Their football program has great history and the basketball program has great upside, plus that geography cannot be changed or ignored. Florida might resist having their rivals join them, but it’s a great move for everyone involved. You could make an argument for Florida State in the Big 12, especially now with UCF joining that conference, but the Seminoles just make more sense in the SEC.
