Georgia Tech

Initially, Georgia Tech’s case is a lot like that of Florida State. The Yellow Jackets’ rival plays in the SEC and joining them would make a lot of sense, but things are a little different in this rivalry. In basketball, neither of the two Georgia schools has had a ton of success in recent years, but it’s a different story in football.

The Georgia Bulldogs have won the last two national championships while the Yellow Jackets haven’t exactly been making national headlines in any of the major sports. The addition of Georgia Tech to the SEC could change things, especially for their football program, but they aren’t on par with the Bulldogs. Life would be tougher in the SEC for Georgia Tech and it’s fair to wonder if the conference would need them, especially with one dominant team from the state already.

Georgia Tech has a new head coach in Damon Stoudamire and certainly optimism for the future in their major sports. The SEC would offer them opportunities and the geography clearly fits perfectly. The one thing that might be the biggest gain for the Yellow Jackets is their location, giving the SEC an even stronger foothold in the city of Atlanta. Georgia Tech wouldn’t be the sexiest addition in the world, but it’s a move that makes a ton of sense for all involved.
