There’s no question that Michigan Basketball has been the most downtrodden program this offseason. They started out by losing two starters in Jett Howard and Kobe Bufkin, both of whom are projected NBA Draft picks. Making matters worse, Hunter Dickinson, the team’s best player on the roster, has transferred out to the Kansas Jayhawks.

The Wolverines have tried to rebuild the roster via the transfer portal, landing three different players. One was backup stretch forward Tray Jackson, with the other being Nimari Burnett, a former five-star prospect and transfer from Alabama. He’s a two-time transfer though, so he’ll need a waiver to play next season.

That’s why it was important that Michigan landed Caleb Love, the leading scorer at North Carolina this past season. He averaged 16.7 ppg and 2.8 apg and had a number of big performances, including in the 2022 NCAA Tournament to lead them to the national title game. He was hoping to be the focal point of the offense and be a nice backcourt fit next to point guard Dug McDaniel.

Unfortunately, the Tar Heels aren’t going to have Love any longer. He’s de-committed from the program, reportedly due to academic and admissions issues. It was apparently the same issue that cost them Terrence Shannon Jr., who ended up at Illinois instead.

Now, Michigan Basketball is going to need at least one more guard. And with the transfer portal drying up, there aren’t many other options available. But among those on the perimeter that still are, here’s the top eight.
