Memphis

Penny Hardaway is building something at Memphis, though it’s not clear yet what exactly that is. The Tigers have had plenty of wins on the recruiting trail and in the Transfer Portal, and landing Love almost seems like another rabbit Penny can pull out of his hat. They’re replacing a ton of talent from last season, but have already added Caleb Mills and freshman Mikey Williams into the mix, though there’s some uncertainty about the latter.

Williams was arrested last month and there’s certainly reason to wonder if he’ll play for Memphis this fall. Love could be an excellent replacement on the roster. He’d bring more veteran experience; he’s someone who’s had postseason success, and he’s an efficient shooter, which any team would love to have. We’re not exactly sure what these Tigers will look like in 2024 or what the near future holds, but adding Love would be a major move to securing a strong upcoming season.

Miami

Miami is fresh off its finest season in program history after advancing to the Final Four. Jim Larranaga’s work with this program has truly been wizardry, though it’s not quite done yet. Star guards Isaiah Wong and Jordan Miller are both gone and their productivity will be replaced by Nijel Pack, Woogla Poplar, and a few other familiar faces. One more new face in the backcourt could greatly change things against in Miami.

The Hurricanes added Matthew Cleveland from Florida State but really haven’t added a lot to this roster. This will not be the same team that made these recent postseason runs, though adding someone with significant postseason experience could certainly help. Love has recently played in the national title game and is exactly the type of shooter and scorer who could elevate the Hurricanes make into prominence again, filling part of the loss of Miller and Wong.
