14. Rhode Island Rams – Grade: C-

The Rams had lost its only two double-digit scorers from this past, including star guard Ishmael Leggett to Pittsburgh via the portal. Coach Archie Miller has been busy, landing six transfers this offseason. Two of them come from the JUCO route (Always Wright and Tyson Brown), along with four from the D-I level.

The biggest name is Jaden House, who averaged 17.9 ppg at High Point. It’s a solid core that includes Zek Montgomery, Luis Kortnight, and David Green. It’s a good group but they’ll need at least a couple to be stars in order to get out of the bottom of the A-10. It hasn’t been a “bad” offseason for the program but definitely not one that’ll move the needed much.

13. UMass Minutemen – Grade: B-

The Minutemen had a number of departures to start the offseason but the two that hurt the most were freshmen Tafare Gapare and RJ Luis, two talented building blocks. They landed two transfers, with the biggest name being Josh Cohen, the Co-NEC Player of the Year at Saint Francis (PA). He averaged 21.8 ppg and had a pair of 40+ point games last season.

The frontcourt of Cohen and returning forward Matt Cross could be the best in the A-10 but the backcourt, now without Noah Fernandes, is a major question. Landing top-150 freshman guard Jaylen Curry is a good long-term pickup but if they could land a proven ball-handler, I’d feel better about the program’s chances.
