12. Richmond Spiders – Grade: C-

For a team that relied solely on one player, the overall lack of moment has been disappointing for the program. The good news is that star forward Tyler Burton is still with them but as both an NBA Draft and transfer candidate (would be a grad transfer), there’s still time for him to depart. The team also lost its freshman guard Jason Nelson to VCU, which hurt from a PR standpoint as well.

The Spiders did replace him with two solid transfer guards. Delonnie Hunt led Wagner last season with 11.1 ppg and 2.7 apg, while Jordan King is a 6’0 newcomer that averaged 15.6 ppg and 3.1 apg at East Tennessee State. So the backcourt got better but the frontcourt remains an issue, though Burton’s return keeps them at least competitive for now.

11. La Salle Explorers – Grade: D

The good news for La Salle is that they’ve kept leading scorer Khalil Brantley (14.3 ppg) and starting guard Jhamir Brickus. That’s where the positivity stops, as A-10 6th Man of the Year Josh Nickelberry transferred over to Florida State. And the departures of both Foussenyni and Hassan Drame over to Duquesne was a true double-blow to the frontcourt.

The Explores have done nothing to upgrade the roster, outside of adding 6’8 international wing, Tunde Fasasi. The frontcourt, which was already a weakness, has even more issues, while both Brantley and Brickus now will need to produce a ton to even keep them competitive. If they don’t add some more pieces soon, La Salle could be in the basement of the league.
