8. Davidson Wildcats – Grade: D

The Wildcats were set to lose star guard Foster Loyer no matter what but forward Ssm Mennenga going pro early was a tough blow. Desmond Watson, who was tied for third in scoring, left but stayed in the A-10, now at Loyola-Chicago. Grant Huffman and David Skogman are good players and will have a larger role but are they good enough to compete in the A-10?

The only addition to Davidson is Jarvis Moss, a transfer from Stanford that didn’t produce much last season. The team will need him and Villanova mid-season transfer Angelo Brizzi to be big-time impact players to have a chance next season.

7. George Washington Colonials – Grade: C-

The top scorer in Atlantic 10 Basketball is back for another year in James Bishop (21.6 ppg) and that instantly gives the Colonials a high floor. Brendan Adams and Ricky Lindo had to leave but Maximus Edwards is back as the key building block for the future after Bishop leaves.

I want to give a higher grade for GW but the three transfer pickups have potential but aren’t proven. Darren Buchanan is a redshirt transfer from Virginia Tech and Benny Schroder played just six games at Oklahoma. Having Bishop for one more year should have the program trying to get ready-made talent to make a run in a winnable league. Instead, they may be destined for another mid-tier finish.
