Shooting guard

Projected starter: Jordan Dingle (28 mpg)

Reserves: Naheim Alleye (8 mpg), Sean Conway (4 mpg)

The top scorer from the entire transfer portal is Dingle, a 6’3 guard from Penn that averaged 23.4 ppg on 46% shooting from the field and 36% from deep. The senior guard scored at least 12 points in every game this past season and went for a career-high 37 points on 12/22 shooting against La Salle.

Dingle is the big name from the group of transfers for St. John’s. The big question will be whether or not his scoring ability will remain at a high level in the Big East. It’s going to drop no matter what but if he’s around 15-17 ppg, the team will be in great shape.

There are multiple options for the Red Storm in the backcourt, including a more proven option at the power conference level. Alleyne took a backseat role at UConn but is a former double-digit scorer at Virginia Tech. Plus, he’s a career 37% shooter from three-point range and 82% from the free throw line.

The last player to consider is Conway, one of the early pickups for the program. At VMI, he averaged 12.1 ppg and 4.9 rpg on 38% shooting from three-point range. The 6’5 guard has good size and is a good career shooter but how he translates defensively will determine how many minutes he gets.
