NCAA Basketball transfer candidate – Paul Mulcahy (Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

2022-23 season stats: 8.3 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and 4.9 apg

Mulcahy is a 6’6 ball-handler that has become one of the top facilitators in the Big Ten over the past two years. He’s not much of a scorer on a nightly basis but can give Rutgers 15+ points every now and then. It’s the passing and defense that makes him such as impactful player, including an 11-point and 13-assist performance against Iowa.

The Scarlet Knights have already lost Caleb McConnell due to eligibility and still is waiting on both Mulcahy and star big man Clifford Omoruyi to make their draft decisions. However, a move that could cause a ripple effect is Cam Spencer, who tied the team in scoring this past season, His shocking move to enter the transfer portal himself as a grad transfer could make things dicey for the team.

If Omoruyi makes the decision to stay in the NBA Draft, that leaves Mulcahy with next to nothing for next season. All of a sudden, would it make sense for him to simply enter the portal? And the big man has to make his move in the next 10 days cause he can’t leave via the portal himself so the guard could wait until that domino falls.

Still, Malcahy is from the state of New Jersey and has remained loyal to the program so far. But if the roster isn’t good enough on paper, could that ultimately force his hand?
