Pac-12 Basketball: Early grades for each teams 2023 offseason moves
10. Stanford Cardinal – Grade: C-
The Cardinal lost two key starters to the transfer portal in Michael O’Connell and Harrison Ingram, with Ingram being the key loss. The former five-star prospect was supposed to bring the team out of the Pac-12 Basketball basement but it never worked out. And there’s a reality that the program will struggle to land grad transfers due to the high academic standards.
That’s why it was so impressive that Stanford was able to get Jared Bynum, a four-year starter from Providence that averaged 10.0 ppg and 4.3 apg last season. These aren’t incredible numbers but he’s better than the point guards that the team has previously had. That, and Michael Jones coming back for an extra year, should make them somewhat of a threat.
9. Washington Huskies – Grade: C+
Losing freshman guard Keyon Menifield to potentially be the 5th guard at Arkansas definitely stings. However, the team was able to land Kentucky transfer, Sahvir Wheeler. He’s not much of a scorer but has been one of the best passers for the last few years. He rejoins Keion Brooks, who led the team with 17.7 ppg and 6.7 rpg and is back for an extra year.
Fresno State guard Anthony Holland is another 5th-year senior to join the team, while Moses Wood is a stretch forward from Portland that averaged 15.3 ppg and 6.3 rpg. It’s now a starting lineup that has real potential and it’s make-or-break got Coach Mike Hopkins, as Washington will have the oldest starting lineup in the country next season.
