NCAA Basketball: Analyzing the key 6 teams for 5-star forward Jarin Stevenson
Georgetown Hoyas
2023 class option
Before this offseason, there’s no way that the Hoyas would be in contention for a non-DMV five-star prospect. But with Coach Ed Cooley taking over for Patrick Ewing, there’s new momentum for the program. They’ve landed a lot of young talent that might not be ready to compete in the Big East next season.
Plus, they landed Kansas State transfer forward, Ismael Massoud. He and UNC transfer Dontrez Styles could be battling for minutes at the four-spot, along with top-60 incoming prospect, Drew Fielder. The biggest selling point for Stevenson here would be that he could be the most talented player on the roster next season.
2024 class option
Waiting a year to see how the new and young pieces work out could be what Stevenson needs to see when it comes to viability. But it’s a two-headed sword, as the program could be good enough because of how good the young forwards played, or not very good overall and therefore, not as appealing compared to the other options, which all have a history of winning.
The Hoyas do have four-star center Thomas Sorber on the roster and after brief consideration, will remain in the 2024 class. Adding Stevenson would be a huge breakthrough for Coach Cooley and give the green light for other top prospects in the class to consider the rebuilding program.
