Providence Friars

The next two options include a family connection. Tyler’s father Quinton Burton played his NCAA Basketball career at Providence from 1986-1990. Another interesting connection is that the program’s new head coach is Kim English, who spent the past two seasons at George Mason. With him and Burton familiar with one another in the Atlantic 10, this could be a legit option.

Coach English has brought with him a few former Patriot players, including wing Justyn Fernandez. The team has Devin Carter as the projected starting shooting guard but they could use a wing the caliber of Burton. Adding him would make the Friars a top-25 team next season.

Tennessee Vols

The coach of the Friars’ teams in 1989-90 was Rick Barnes, who has since become one of the best coaches in all of NCAA Basketball. He’s now at Tennessee and has undergone a complete a roster shakeup, adding a trio of top-tier transfers. One of them includes combo forward, Chris Ledlum.

There’s still been a number of roster departures in the frontcourt, including Julian Phillips, Olivier Nkamhoua, and Josiah-Jordan James. And there’s a chance that the Ivy League transfer isn’t ready for the SEC. With his own family connections, could Barnes have one more transfer in mind to round out the roster?
