ACC Basketball: Updated way-too-early power rankings for 2023-24 season

14. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

2022-23 season record: 15-18 (6-14)

The Yellow Jackets ended the Josh Pastner era at the end of the season and hired Damon Stoudamire, a former coach at Pacific and was most recently an NBA assistant. He instantly went to the transfer portal to bring in some more talent, both inside and out.

Kowacie Reeves is a former four-star prospect from Florida, while Amaree Abram averaged 8.0 ppg as a freshman from Ole Miss. And Jalen Forrest was a double-digit scoring guard from Presbyterian. With Kyle Sturdivant, Miles Kelly, and Deebo Coleman all back, there’s plenty of depth on the perimeter this season.

After having 6’7 forward Javon Franklin represent the frontcourt last season. Georgia Tech has added a ton of size. Tyzhaun Claude averaged 15.4 ppg and 8.6 rpg at Western Carolina, while Ebenezer Dowuona was a backup at NC State. Tafara Garpare was a former four-star prospect at UMass and is a promising combo forward. Plus, Baye Ndongo is a late addition, a four-star incoming freshman and former Rutgers commit.

There’s a lot of athleticism on this roster but unless they play a ton of 3 or even 4-guard lineups, there are a lot of questions about spacing. And three-point shooting was a major weakness last season. If that doesn’t get fixed, this roster will remain to have limitations next season.
