ACC Basketball: Updated way-too-early power rankings for 2023-24 season
12. Boston College Eagles
2022-23 season record: 16-17 (9-11)
This is one of the tougher teams to judge because when they had a healthy Quinten Post, Boston College was a middle-of-the-pack ACC Basketball team. He averaged a team-leading 15.1 ppg and 5.6 rpg in 19 games played and is set to return for a 5th year. So on the bright side, the Eagles will have one of the 10 best-returning players in the league.
The problem is just about everyone else. They lose their best guard Makai Ashton-Langford, while both TJ Bickerstaff and DeMarr Langford have transferred out. They do bring back double-digit scorer Jaeden Zackery and Mason Madsen in the backcourt, along with starting freshman forward, Prince Aligbe.
The lone incoming transfer on the roster is Cluadell Harris Jr., who averaged 17.4 ppg on 46% shooting at Charleston Southern. The hope is that the 6’3 guard can be the replacement for Ashton-Langford but will that be good enough to get them out of the bottom tier?
Coach Earl Grant has coached them up to be competitive and they can beat just about anyone on a given day. But they absolutely can lose to just about anyone as well. This will be an important year for the program with Post back and they’ll need to capitalize but another guard has to step up in order to make it happen.
