8. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

2022-23 season record: 19-14 (10-10)

When it comes to the biggest losses on an individual team, Tyree Appleby being gone is a tough blow for Wake Forest. He led the team with 18.8 ppg and 6.4 apg and could’ve been ACC Player of the Year had the team finished higher in the standings. Also gone is Daivien Williams, along with forward Bobi Klintman, who is a surprising entrant to the NBA Draft after just one year.

The team does return a trio of double-digit scorers on the roster in Cameron Hildreth, Damari Monsanto, and Andrew Carr. Starting big man Matthew Marsh is also back after shooting a whopping 88% from the field. The team will have back Jao Ituka, who was limited to just six games after averaging over 15 ppg at Marist the year prior.

There are three incoming transfers that the Demon Deacons will be depending on. Kevin “Boopie” Miller produced 13.8 ppg in 34 career games at Central Michigan and could be the next great ball-handler for the program. Then there are the pair of Gonzaga transfers and former five-star prospects, Hunter Sallis and Efton Reid. Sallis is a 6’6 wing that can handle the ball, while Reid is a 7’0 center.

He’ll have to get a waiver as a two-time transfer but the team has depth in both Marsh and Zach Keller just in case. And if UCLA wing transfer Abramo Canka, Wake Forest could be a surprise candidate in the ACC next season.
