Xavier Musketeers

The Musketeers were one of the more busier NCAA Basketball teams this offseason. They landed four transfers, three of whom all come from Conference USA. Two of them are in the backcourt in Dayvion McKnight, who averaged 16.5 ppg and 3.8 apg at Western Kentucky, along with Quincy Olivari, who went for 18.7 ppg and 5.9 rpg as a 6’2 guard.

The issue that Coach Sean Miller has is the lack of proven production at the Big East level. After losing Souley Boum, Colby Jones, and Adam Kunkel, the only two returning guards on the roster are Desmond Claude (4.7 ppg) and Kam Craft. There’s a group of four-star freshman guards coming in, including top-40 commit, Trey Green.

Coach Miller has a good track record with guards, consistently having one of the top offenses in the country, And his work with Boum is a major selling point for someone like Pullin. The concern here is that he and McKnight may not be a good fit together on the court, so one of them may have to play fewer minutes than expected.

That being said, it makes sense for Xavier to not put all of its eggs in the McKnight basket to run the offense. But whether that can be sold for both top-tier transfer guards remains to be seen.
