In the new era of Coach Ed Cooley, there’s been an emphasis on bringing in players from the “DMV area” such as Rucker. And looking at the guards currently on the roster, there’s still a need for a proven D-I guard that can handle the ball and score. Jay Heath is back but he’s more of an off-guard. So is Illinois transfer, Jayden Epps.

Rowan Brumbaugh is the only true ball-handler and he’s a former top-100 prospect. However, he’s a redshirt transfer from Texas and may not be ready for big minutes. It would be a nice opportunity for Rucker to come home and play for the rebuilding program and provide more scoring ability.

Another possible local option that needs backcourt help is Maryland, which is good in the frontcourt (Julian Reese and Donta Scott), as well as the starting point guard (Jahmir Young). Besides the incoming four-star wings, the team did land Chance Stephens, who averaged 7.0 ppg as a freshman at LMU.

Jahari Long averaged a couple of points in 10 mpg as the backup guard but the Terrapins could use an upgrade such as Rucker. And with the two-spot open, they could play both Young and Rucker together to have a compelling scoring backcourt as well.
