The 2023 NCAA Basketball recruiting class was ALMOST done at the start of June. Two big decisions occurred in the past few days, as five-star forward and former Texas commit Ron Holland opted to play in the G League, while four-star forward and former St. John’s commit Brandon Gardner will be playing with the USC Trojans next season.

However, there’s now a new top-100 prospect available for the 2023-24 campaign. It’s Chris Johnson, a consensus four-star combo guard from Missouri City, Texas. He most recently was playing at Montverde Academy in High School and was set to play for Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks.

However, things have changed when it comes to the roster for the Big 12 juggernauts. They did land Michigan transfer Hunter Dickinson but also brought in a pair of transfer guards. Towson transfer Nick Timberlake was one thing but landing Arterio Morris, a former five-star prospect with three years of eligibility left from the Texas Longhorns made it appear too crowded a backcourt for all of the guards on the roster.

Johnson is a 6’4 playmaking guard with the size and defensive ability to play both on and off the ball. However, he’s best as a point guard at the NCAA Basketball level since he’s not the greatest shooter and just really good as a distributor. And there are a number of teams that can still use a ball-handler out there for the upcoming season.

Here’s a look at eight programs that could use Johnson both for now and in the future.
