New head coach Grant McCasland is known for his defense back from his time at North Texas. But he may be changing things a bit as he enters the Big 12. He’s landed a few new pieces via the portal, including ASU starting center Warren Washington and Nevada combo forward, Darrion Williams. Plus, they still have former Georgia forward, KyeRon Lindsay on the roster.

That makes this already a confusing option because Texas Tech has several forwards on the roster. That doesn’t even include returning forward Robert Jennings and incoming freshman Eemeli Yalaho. Yet the reason why the program is interested in another player is the lack of proven offense on paper.

While Williams has long-term potential and Washington was a double-digit scorer last season with the Sun Devils, only freshman point guard Pop Isaacs can the ability to be a “focal point” of an offense. So Kaluma could easily come in and be at least the No. 2 option for them.

The former Creighton forward would be a massive late haul for Coach McCasland. It worked a year ago with new HC Jerome Tang at Kansas State, who landed forward Keyontae Johnson to make it all the way to the Elite 8. It’s moves like that which is needed in the Big 12, can Texas Tech make that big of a splash?
