3. Cam Spencer – Rutgers Scarlet Knights

2022-23 season stats: 13.2 ppg and 3.1 apg

Recruiting battle: UConn vs Miami vs Oklahoma vs UCLA

Spencer was a late addition to the portal and a brutal blow for Rutgers. He tied for the team lead in scoring and shot 43% from three-point range. As a proven lethal shooter at both Loyola (MD)
and now Rutgers, the 6’4 guard was the top perimeter option left in the portal after the deadline.

Spencer came out with a list of options that included four teams from four different conferences. But two teams stood out in UConn and Miami, both of whom were coming off Final Four appearances and in the Huskies case, winning a national title.

Each of them got visits from the former Scarlet Knight. The Hurricanes were looking for a guard to replace ACC Player of the Year Isaiah Wong to pair with Nijel Pack. And with big man Norchad Omier back and FSU transfer wing Matthew Cleveland in the frontcourt, they’re a sharpshooter away from being a top-10 caliber team.

Meanwhile, UConn is looking for a shooter of its own to replace the outgoing Jordan Hawkins. And with Andre Jackson gone, the team can use another perimeter addition. If it’s really down to these two, look for the winner to solidify their standing as a top-10 team next season.
