Creighton Bluejays

The Bluejays know who it’s starting wing is for next season, thanks to Baylor Scheierman coming back for an extra year. The former Summit League Player of the Year had a successful transition from the mid-major ranks, averaging 12.8 ppg, 8.3 rpg, and 3.3 apg. And Coach Greg McDermott has even more history with quality small forwards, with his son and former Creighton legend, Doug McDermott.

This has been one of the better offenses in all of NCAA Basketball for the past few years but there’s a great chance that both Trey Alexander and Ryan Kalkbrenner will be gone after next season to the NBA Draft. So Betsey would be coming to a program that’s somewhat rebuilding. Still, that would allow the freshman to be the focal point of the offense early.

Indiana Hoosiers

The Hoosiers have had a solid offseason but the biggest splash came with landing Mackenzie Mgbako, a 6’8 combo forward and former Duke commit. He and Betsey have similar profiles, and there’s a chance they could play together at the 3 and 4-spots if they wanted to.

The question is whether or not there’s a pathway for Betsey to play major minutes out of the gate. As talented as he may be, Mgbako isn’t a definite “one-and-done” future pro. And the team’s starting power forward is Malik Reneau, a rising sophomore with multiple years of eligibility left. If Indiana is a true option, Betsey should probably wait a bit during the season to see where things stand with the forwards on this Big Ten team.
