3. Purdue Boilermakers – Buy

The Boilermakers were ranked No. 1 for a good portion of last season and got a 1 seed in the Big Dance. But it didn’t matter, as they became the second-ever 1 seed to lose in the Round of 64. And it was to Fairleigh Dickinson, one of the worst teams in NCAA Basketball overall.

Yet despite the awful ending, this was still a Purdue team that ran away with both the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles, as well as blowouts over Duke and Gonzaga. And that 29-win team returns just about everyone, including all of the most important pieces.

There’s none more important than Zach Edey, a 7’4 center and last season’s National Player of the Year Award. He led the team with 22.3 ppg and 12.9 ppg and will be the top individual player in the sport next season. Also back are guards Fletcher Loyer and Braden Smith, two quality guards that played well as freshmen and should take nice leaps in their second years.

With Caleb Furst, Ethan Morton, and Southern Illinois transfer Lance Jones on the roster, this team should be more than capable of making a deep run. In fact, they could very well repeat what the other early 1 seed exit (Virginia, 2018) did; come back the next year to win it all.
