2. Duke Blue Devils – Buy

Offseason decisions haven’t worked out for everyone, with Kentucky as a good example. But one program that saw the ball roll their way was Duke, who brought back several key pieces for another season. The big return is Kyle Filipowski, who led the team in both points and rebounding this past season. And with the team not able to land a center, having the ability to play him at the five will work just fine.

Also back for the Blue Devils are Mark Mitchell and Tyrese Proctor, a pair of former five-star prospects that started for the team this past season and will be breakout candidates to watch in 2024. Also back is Jeremy Roach, the double-digit scoring guard and veteran playmaker on an otherwise young roster.

There’s so much talent on this roster and in the top-3 incoming recruiting class that they could afford to lose five-star combo forward, Mackenzie Mgbako this offseason. All four incoming freshmen are listed as five-stars, including forwards Sean Stewart and TJ Power, as well as guards Caleb Foster and Jared McCain.

Duke’s roster is in great shape even if none of those freshmen break out. They have a National Player of the Year candidate (Filipowski), a possible NBA Draft lottery pick (Proctor) and so much talent overall. If Coach K was still leading the program, they’d probably be the unanimous preseason No. 1 team. The pressure will be on Coach Jon Scheyer to get it done with this group because all of the pieces are there.
