San Francisco is hoping for big things from Dayton transfer Mike Sharavjamts this upcoming season. What kind of impact will he have?

Despite losing both its star guard and head coach from the 2022 NCAA Tournament team, San Francisco and head coach Chris Gerfulsen managed to stay competitive in WCC Basketball last season. They won 20 games and were led by guards Khalil Shabazz and Tyrell Roberts.

Both of them are gone and the Dons needed to find some more guards to replace them to keep up at the upper half of the conference. They return Marcus Williams (7.8 ppg and 2.8 apg) and added USC transfer and former top-100 prospect, Malik Thomas. And now, there’s one more addition to the program with an international presence.

Mike Sharavjamts, also known as “Mongolian Mike” is a 6’8 combo guard from Dayton. As a freshman, he averaged 5.6 ppg and 2.6 apg and had a tremendous start to the season, including six double-digit scoring games in the first 11 outings of the season. He struggled afterward but still had some nice passing games and in a different system, could be a breakout star.

The Dons’ fast-paced offense is very different from the one at Dayton and it should be a benefit for Sharavjamts. And he has a chance to thrive at the WCC level as well. It’s a conference that besides from Gonzaga has been making stars on the perimeter, including former Santa Clara guards, Jalen Williams and Brandin Podziemski.

Speaking of Santa Clara, they’ve had a nice offseason itself, along with LMU. And Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s each have top-25 rosters. So San Francisco needed to swing for the fences with a target with a high-upside such as Sharajvamts. It may not work out fully but if it does, look for the Dons to once again contend for a top-4 finish in the conference standings.
