NCAA Basketball: Analyzing top 7 teams for 4-star wing Caleb Williams
Villanova Wildcats
With projected top-10 NBA Draft pick Cam Whitmore gone, the Wildcats have used the transfer portal to get several options capable of playing that wing position. That includes Richmond forward Tyler Burton, Maryland guard Hakim Hart, and incoming three-star freshman, Jordann Dumont.
Considering that Dumont is the lone incoming freshman, a case can be made that Villanova doesn’t really need another wing from the 2024 class, since every other position will be of bigger need. Still, this is an option that has plenty of potential room, and based on the roster construction, Coach Kyle Neptune is willing to play guys at multiple positions, which will benefit Williams.
Virginia Cavaliers
There are a few wings on the roster right now for Virginia, even excluding Oklahoma transfer and one-year rental, Jacob Groves. St. Thomas transfer Andrew Rodhe averaged over 17 ppg as a freshman, while Isaac McKneely, Ryan Dunn, Leon Bond, and four-star guard Elijah Gertrude are competing for minutes next season.

Because of his versatility and defensive capabilities, Williams and Virginia would be a natural fit. The question here is whether or not there’s a pathway for minutes for him. If there is, they could end up being the preferred destination. But ultimately, we’ll have to wait until the season to see how the roster works out.
