8. Carson Puriefoy

Originally from Wenonah, New Jersey, Puriefoy is a 6’0 point guard who certainly found a home with the Seawolves of Stony Brook, playing there between 2012 and 2016. He was never the leading scorer or the #1 option on offense, but Puriefoy had an important role with the program and played his role well for those four years, with our focus today on his three years in the starting lineup.

After a meager freshman year, he averaged 12.9 points per game as a sophomore despite starting less than half of Albany’s games that season. He carved out the full-time point guard role and hit just over 37% of his 3-pointers in his college career. Puriefoy averaged over 14 points and 3 assists per game in each of his final two seasons, averaging over 20 points per game in helping lead the Seawolves to the 2016 AEC Tournament championship. His career ended with an NCAA Tournament loss to Kentucky, the first in program history.

Puriefoy was a major piece not just for Stony Brook but in the America East. He was First Team All-America East each of those last two seasons, finishing near the top of the league in points, assists, and steals. He was a decent shooter and an above average defender and was one of the most important pieces for Steve Pikiell in his final four seasons at Stony Brook.
