Daquan Davis is a consensus three-star ball-handler in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Which teams are reportedly in the mix to land him?

Daquan Davis is one of the better true point guards in the entire 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. He’s a 6’1 playmaker out of Washington, D.C., and a standout in the “DMV” area. He’s a good passer that can score and projects to be a multi-year player at the college level.

We know when Davis will decide and it’s less than a week from now. The three-star guard is down to four programs from four different conferences, fairly spread out on the map. Here’s a look at the roster situations for each option and how Davis would fit with them.

Maryland Terrapins

As the “local” option, Maryland should have a good chance at landing Davis if they fully target him. And they have a compelling case to make, as they’ll be losing leading scorer and ball-handler Jahmir Young after next season. The only other ball-handler for the Terps is Jahari Long, who isn’t a long-term proven option. This is a spot where Davis could play early minutes if he commits.

Mississippi State Bulldogs

The Bulldogs are set to run with Dashawn Davis and Marshall transfer Andrew Taylor in the backcourt, both of whom have just one year left. Shakeel Moore is also on the roster but he’s more of an off-the-ball guard. Mississippi State does have an incoming four-star guard (Josh Hubbard) coming in but he can play with Davis and once the vets are gone, there’s plenty of room available.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

New head coach Micah Shrewsberry has a ton of new guards joining the rebuilding program. That includes several ball-handlers, such as Markus Burton, Logans Imes, and 2024 commit, Cole Certa. This is a situation where while there are no proven ACC guards on the roster, there’s already a potential logjam that Davis would be joining before even knowing who breaks out as freshmen next season.

Providence Friars

There are currently three ball-handlers on the roster, including Alyn Breed, who is currently suspended from the team. Besides him are Jayden Pierre, who didn’t play much as a freshman, along with top-50 incoming freshman combo guard, Garwey Dual.

New head coach Kim English is going to need a guard in the 2024 class for depth purposes, whether Pierre/Dual work out or not this upcoming season. He comes from George Mason and still has his own “DMV” connections and if Maryland isn’t the top team to beat, Providence could be a sneaky contender in this race.
