Former top-100 NCAA Basketball prospect Adrame Diongue has left Washington State and took a few visits this offseason. Which of them makes the most sense?
A lot of talented centers have come and gone through the NCAA Basketball transfer portal this offseason. But there are a few left that can make an impact at their new respective stop. One is Adrame Diongue, who was ranked in the top-75 of the 2022 recruiting class.
Diongue went to Washington State, where he was limited in his freshman season. The 7’0 center averaged just 1.3 ppg and 1.8 rpg in 6.3 mpg and 22 games overall. His season-high performance was six points and four rebounds against Praire View, while also blocking three shots off the bench against both Arizona and UCLA.
There have been several teams that have been after Diongue this offseason and he’s taken three visits per his social media. They may not be the finalists but are certainly in the running. Here’s a look at how he’d fit with each of them.
Nebraska Cornhuskers
The Cornhuskers not only lost star big man Derrick Walker this offseason but Wilheim Breidenbach had transferred out to Washington. So while the team did land Bradley transfer Rienk Mast, there’s still a lack of depth in the frontcourt. Diongue would be an upgrade over Breidenbach in the frontcourt but there is a concern that he might not be ready for the Big Ten level.
New Mexico State Aggies
After a disastrous past season, the Aggies’ program went through a full house-cleaning, including the roster. They landed a bunch of transfers overall, including Kaosi Ezeagu in the frontcourt. There’s a bunch of guards but not many bigs so this is an option where Diongue not only can get plenty of minutes but potentially thrive at the WAC level.
San Jose State Spartans
San Jose State had its best campaign in years, finishing in the middle of the Mountain West and finally being competitive. But they not only lost star guard Omari Moore but also starting center Ibrahima Diallo, who transferred over to UCF.
The Spartans still have Tibet Gorener on the roster but he’s not ready to be a start. Diongue could be the ideal replacement for Diallo and start for them and still have a sizeable role on both ends. Plus, the Mountain West has a history of former Pac-12 players coming over and having major success, something the former Washington State big man could continue.
