Garrett Sundra is a consensus four-star forward in the 2024 NCAA Basketball recruiting class. Which programs are reportedly in the mix to land him?

The latest class of 2024 NCAA Basketball prospect to update their respective recruitment is Garrett Sundra, a top-100 player from Fairfax, Virginia. He’s listed at 6’10 and over 210 pounds and is a conventional power forward that can stretch the floor.

Sundra reportedly is down to five options, with a couple from the local “DMV” area. Here’s a look at how the power-forward prospect fits with each of the potential options.

Butler Bulldogs

The Ali Ali experiment didn’t work this past season, with Andre Screen and Jahmyl Telfort likely taking most of the minutes at the four-spot. There are also incoming freshmen, Boden Kapke and Augusto Cassia coming in but both are unproven as well. There’s a desperate need for talent and a top-100 guy like Sundra is what the program needs to build back hope in the Big East.

Miami Hurricanes

Technically, the Hurricanes don’t even have a power forward on its roster, as FSU transfer wing Matthew Cleveland is set to play most of the minutes at the four-spot. So right now, there’s a big need for Sundra to join the team and get a nice role. And assuming that big man Norchad Omier came back for a 5th year, these two would be a nice frontcourt pairing when it came to spacing.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

It’s a complete rebuilding effort for the Irish and new HC Micah Shrewsberry and a brand new roster overall. The frontcourt includes Penn State transfer Kebba Njie and four-star incoming freshman, Carey Booth. There’s no proven forward for now but if things go well for Notre Dame’s set of newcomers, it’d be a crowded frontcourt that Sundra would be going to.

Providence Friars

The starter at the four-spot is Bryce Hopkins, who is a candidate to go pro after next season. Plus, both Josh Oduro and Will McNair won’t have any eligibility left either, leaving backup forward, Rafael Castro. This is an option where Sundra can come in and have a nice role and he could eventually become the next Noah Horchler as the next stretch big.

Virginia Tech Hokies

With both Justyn Mutts and Grant Basile gone, it’s going to be a new frontcourt for the Hokies. The two frontcourt transfers the team brought are Northwestern forward Robbie Beran and UNC combo forward, Tyler Nickel. How Nickel plays will be important because he’s a former top-75 prospect that’s supposed to be the future power forward.

So Virginia Tech is an option that could work for Garrett Sundra or he could have to play behind Nickel. Butler, Providence, and Miami stand out when it comes to a path towards early playing time but with the Bulldogs rebuilding a bit, the Frians and Hurricanes make good cases for the four-star prospect.
