Dishon Jackson is a former Washington State player that missed this past season. If cleared, he should be impactful for Texas Tech Basketball.

Entering the offseason, Texas Tech Basketball knew it had an issue with the frontcourt to deal with, After firing head coach Mark Adams, it took a while for the program to find its replacement, and in the meantime, several players left via the transfer portal. That included the two centers, Fardaws Aimaq and Daniel Batcho.

Once Grant McCasland was hired, he was able to land a few pieces. The first was Warren Washington, the starting center at Arizona State. But there wasn’t any depth behind him that could play the five-spot at the Big 12 level. Luckily for them, the Red Raiders got lucky with a free agent big man that previously played for a power conference program.

Jackson is a 6’10 center that averaged 7.2 ppg and 4.3 rpg as a freshman at Washington State in 13 starts. That included an 18-point and 5-rebound performance against USC. His role lessened as a sophomore and Jackson missed all of last season due to a health issue. He entered the transfer portal this offseason and had originally picked the Charlotte 49ers.

However, Jackson ended up parting ways with the program after head coach Ron Sanchez left to become an assistant at Virginia. And there weren’t too many capable power conference big men that Texas Tech could realistically get. That makes this a good pairing for both sides, as Jackson can slide as the backup five-man and get around 13-15 mpg behind Washington.

It’s still not a 100% guarantee, as Jackson’s health issues need to be addressed before he gets back on the court. But assuming that works out, Texas Tech should be good when it comes to the overall frontcourt depth. They have one scholarship left and based on the current roster, it should likely go to a backcourt player.
