Kentucky Wildcats
The Wildcats finally got a veteran on the roster, with the return of senior guard, Antonio Reeves. Still, it’s a massively young roster that doesn’t have a true power forward. Either five-star combo forward Justin Edwards gets the start of top-5 big man Aaron Bradshaw, who reportedly is sidelined with a foot injury.
Mitchell would certainly start for the blue blood program if he picked Kentucky and have a sizeable role next season. How much will ultimately depend on how good the incoming class is but it’s also the ultimate national stage and allow the big man to have a great shot at making a deep NCAA Tournament run in his final year.
Memphis Tigers
The Tigers’ frontcourt remains bare, as Temple transfer Nick Jourdain is the only true forward/center on the current roster. Memphis is reportedly looking to get an extra year of eligibility for Deandre Williams, the star forward that averaged over 17 ppg last season. If the NCAA grants one, then they won’t need Mitchell on the roster.
However, it’s far from a guarantee that the NCAA gives the Tigers what they want and they need a contingency plan. Mitchell’s ability to play both the 4 and the 5 would be really important for a program that lacks depth at each position and he’d be able to thrive in the AAC.
