ACC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
16. Kyle Guy
A 6’2 guard from Indianapolis, Guy came to Virginia in 2016 and blossomed into a star in Tony Bennett’s system. A former Top 40 prospect, Guy was an excellent shooter while with the Cavaliers and was a major piece in the program for his three seasons in college, culminating in Virginia’s national championship, which finished off his career.
Guy wasn’t a starter for much of his freshman season but hit nearly half of his 3-pointers in limited opportunities. He was much more involved as a sophomore, averaging 14.1 points per game, but it was a season that ended in that historic loss to UMBC. Guy and his Cavaliers teammates would have quite the bounce back, with Guy averaging 15.4 points and 4.5 rebounds while hitting nearly 43% of his 3-pointers. He was vital to Virginia’s run to the national title, scoring 25 points in the Elite Eight against Purdue and 24 in the title game win over Texas Tech.
Not only was he twice named First Team All-ACC, Guy was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2019 NCAA Tournament. He was the best 3-point shooter in the ACC and a menace on the offensive end of the court. Playing in Bennett’s system, Guy was also a great defensive player and was the total package in Virginia’s ultimate revenge. After those three seasons, Guy was off to the NBA and became a late draft pick.
