25. De’Andre Hunter
A Top 75 prospect from the class of 2016, Hunter made his way from Philadelphia to Virginia to play for Tony Bennett. A talented 6’7 wing, he’d redshirt his freshman season before developing into a major role with the Cavaliers. Hunter would play just two seasons at Virginia but would leave campus on quite the high note in 2019.
His first season on the court saw him as Virginia’s sixth man, averaging 9.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in decent minutes off the bench. A talented outside shooter, his production and numbers greatly increased as a sophomore. Now a full-fledged starter, Hunter averaged 15.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, contributing to Virginia’s elite defensive attack and hitting 43.8% of his 3-pointers. Injured the previous season during Virginia’s big upset loss, Hunter was a major part in Virginia winning the national championship, including a 27-point performance in the title game against Texas Tech.
The ACC Sixth Man of the Year as a redshirt freshman, Hunter was one of the backbones of Virginia’s run to the title and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in the process. His shooting numbers were fantastic for the Cavaliers, especially as a sophomore, and his contributions on both offense and defense were essential in Virginia squeezing out the first national championship in program history.
