ACC Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
18. Alondes Williams
It’s hard to ignore the contributions that Williams had, even if he played just a single season in the ACC. A 6’5 guard originally from Milwaukee, Williams was recruited to Oklahoma by Lon Kruger and played a pair of seasons for the Sooners. He transferred after Kruger retired in 2021 and spent his third and final collegiate season at Wake Forest, becoming a major focal point and eventual star for the Demon Deacons.
Williams truly blossomed in Winston-Salem, averaging 18.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game in that lone season at Wake Forest. He had a triple-double in December against USC Upstate and helped the Demon Deacons to a hot start to the season. Williams followed that up with solid play against the ACC, including a slew of double-doubles, and would get Wake Forest to the quarterfinals of the NIT.
He spent just one year in the ACC, but walked away as ACC Player of the Year, having done remarkable things at Wake Forest during that short time. He led the ACC in assists and was among the conference’s leaders in points, field goal percentage, and many efficiency metrics. Wake Forest’s 25-win season was a major step forward from recent history and the addition of Williams turned out to be a masterful move.
