Louisville Cardinals

It looked as if once the Cardinals landed former Memphis commit Ty-Laur Johnson to the roster, they’d be done this offseason. But as transfers continue to fill into the portal, will the team be willing to stand pack with its current backcourt?

With El Ellis gone, the ball-handlers on the roster are Johnson, Illinois transfer Skyy Clark, and JUCO transfer Koron Davis. Combined are just 13 games of NCAA Basketball experience between the three of them. Quinerly, a 6th-year senior, would usurp that easily and give Louisville a good chance of rebounding off a 4-win past season.

Memphis Tigers

The Tigers are another program that has been after point guards all offseason since Florida State transfer Caleb Mills is more of a two-guard. Not only did Johnson leave for Louisville but Mikey Williams, a five-star incoming freshman ball-handler, has his status up in the air due to legal issues.

As mentioned before, Kerr Kriisa is off the board after returning to West Virginia. And Memphis has missed out on several other targets as well. Quinerly could come in and become the lead guard and have a chance to put up some big numbers at the AAC level. It would be a risk though because there are already plenty of guards and if Williams does play, Quinerly could end up being a 6th Man again.
