Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Horton is from New Jersey, which should make the Scarlet Knights a potential threat if they were to get involved. And they’d have good reason to try, since the team lost two backcourt starters (Paul Mulcahy and Cam Spencer) in the past month. The team’s new backcourt could be UMass transfer Noah Fernandes and Derek Simpson, neither of whom are proven Big Ten guys in extended minutes.

Adding Horton makes sense for Rutgers in that he’d be a one-year rental to replace Spencer. If everything goes well, the team will have five-star prospects, Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper in the 2024 class. Horton could be gone by then and wouldn’t create a logjam in the backcourt while keeping the Knights competitive in Big Ten play before they potentially arrive.

Texas Longhorns

The good news for Texas is that they recently landed top-60 combo guard and former Kansas commit, Chris Johnson. Yet despite that, the team still has three available roster spots, due to so many players gone. The backcourt still doesn’t have a ton of proven depth outside of projected starters, Tyrese Hunter and Oral Roberts transfer, Max Abmas.

Johnson joins Texas-Rio Grande Valley transfer, Chendall Weaver, who averaged under 10 ppg as a freshman in the WAC. Horton would be the 6th Man on the roster and that could be a good thing, as Sir’Jabari Rice did that this past season after transferring over from New Mexico State and turned that into a starring role and now a player with an NBA contract. With plenty of room still available, that could be appealing for Horton in his final year.
