Atlantic Sun Basketball: In-depth look at Eastern Kentucky PG Leland Walker

The Mid-Major breakout player series is back for the second week. This week will be focused on a player from the Atlantic Sun conference and the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. Eastern Kentucky is a program that has experienced some success over the last few years because of its style of play. Head coach AW Hamilton wants to be the fastest team on the floor. The team doesn’t need a shot clock and the defense has gotten so much better over the last few seasons that it has led to a lot more wins for the Colonels.

Eastern Kentucky is loaded with solid players who fit the role they were brought in to play exceptionally well. The Colonels also have one of the Atlantic Sun’s biggest stars in Leland Walker. Walker had a great season last year, but his accomplishments were somewhat overshadowed by the huge stars in the Atlantic Sun last year.

Yes, I am talking about Darius McGhee from Liberty and Chris Youngblood from Kennesaw State. Those two players were the ones who grabbed most of the headlines and it felt like everything that was being done at Eastern Kentucky last season was an afterthought for most of the individuals who covered the league and especially for those who were just a fan of basketball.

Everyone do yourself a favor and watch Eastern Kentucky play basketball they are exciting as they get shots up quickly. They are well coached, and they are in a league they can win especially with the turnover at the two top schools in the league. The Atlantic Sun is a league that has never been better. The talent in the league is at an all-time high but Walker stands out as the one player who is ready to take the biggest jump in the league. If he can take the jump that a lot of people think he can Eastern Kentucky is going to be the team that comes out of the Atlantic Sun.
