ASUN Basketball: Ranking of 25 best players from last decade (2013-23)
By Joey Loose
12. Kendrick Ray
Ray is a 6’1 guard from Middletown, New York who began his collegiate career somewhat close to home, beginning at Quinnipiac. He played a very minor role at Quinnipiac, appearing in only one game as a sophomore before deciding to transfer. Ray’s final two years came at Kennesaw State, becoming a full-time starting guard between 2015 and 2017 for those Owls.
Ray’s junior season, his first at Kennesaw, was a phenomenal effort, averaging 18.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in Al Skinner’s first season as head coach. During his final collegiate season, Ray had a career-high 35 points in a loss to UMass and was an even more impressive offensive player. He was putting up 21.2 points per game for Kennesaw State, helping them to a 4th place finish in the ASUN.
One of the nation’s top scorers in 2017, Ray earned First Team All-ASUN honors one year after earning the Second-Team nod. He was a dynamic addition for the Owls as an upperclassman and became the primary option on offense. Kennesaw didn’t have their most successful years, but Ray was still an extremely talented scorer who saw much more run in the ASUN than earlier at Quinnipiac.
